<p><em>Primetag presents the first of a series of Guest Posts with Marketing professionals that the world needs to know their work and views on Influencer Marketing</em>. </p>



<p><strong>EMPOWERMENT TO <s>CONSUMER</s> PEOPLE </strong></p>



<p>I got a poetic vision about marketing, I believe that brands are people.</p>



<p>If we close our eyes and think about some brands we are going to feel passion, craziness, hate, inspiration&#8230;and for that reason, yes…brands are people.</p>

<p>As a brand we want to be that person that everyone wants to be with, that top of mind person when we want to have a drink, confess, ask opinions or simply hang out and feel all the positive energy. <br></p>



<p><strong>The new marketing buzzword “humanization”</strong> is a reflection of the need and ambition for brands to be more authentic, human and not merely a commercial transaction.</p>



<p>Just reflect on what&#8217;s happening on Instagram, where the younger ones are getting off the platform because it creates social pressure, the need for the perfect photo and the perfect life.</p>



<p>They want to be on platforms where they can be authentic, without filters and without pressure, which translates to the success of TikTok, Discord and Twitch.</p>



<p>The big question is <strong>&#8220;How do we humanize a brand without smelling fishy?&#8221;</strong> even more so when Generation Z and Alpha have a bullshit radar because if it isn&#8217;t done legitimately we enter the dangerous territory of purpose washing.</p>

<p>To help you, I&#8217;m going to share the laws we use in our digital strategy:<br><strong> </strong></p>



<p>1 &#8211; <strong>THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SEED</strong></p>



<p>Brand building is not done in 2 days, so it is necessary to put the seed in the audience that we want to impact and feed the brand&#8217;s core message over time.</p>



<p>2 &#8211; <strong>AWARENESS ≠ ATTENTION</strong></p>



<p>Creating notoriety without message and attention is just noise. More than notoriety, we want to capture the audience&#8217;s attention on the right channels.</p>



<p><strong> 3 &#8211; ATTENTION–RELEVENCE = SPAM</strong></p>



<p>We have to be relevant, understand the pains, ambitions and designs of the audience, the message and the content needs to be interesting and relevant, otherwise, it&#8217;s spam.</p>

<p>4 &#8211; <strong>Likes to brand equity</strong></p>



<p>Likes without a message are just noise.</p>



<p>We have to make sure that engagement is about the message and not the form. </p>



<p>To help in the analysis, I recommend creating weights in the metrics, for example, a “save” is worth 4 times a single like.</p>



<p>5 &#8211; <strong>From people to people</strong></p>



<p>Our content has to be as real as possible, made by people for people.<br>For example, our “rawer” and real people photos have 3X more engagement than typically more advertising photos (photos with a lot more editing, perfect framing).</p>



<p>I invite you to see our &#8220;sumólicos&#8221; rubric, an example of co-creation of UGC with the brand, where every Friday we publish on Instagram a true story of a fan of the brand.</p>

<p><strong>But how do we implement these laws? What is the process?<br></strong> </p>



<p>In 2014, we created the concept of <strong>DIGITAL ECOSYSTEM</strong> where our co-creators are at the center.</p>



<p>I share a recent quote from Suzanne Kounkel, <strong>Deloitte&#8217;s </strong>Chief Marketing Officer, who embodies this concept well <strong>“Fusion is the new ecosystem, Fusion is the art of bringing together new business partnerships, customer insights, and digital platforms to create ecosystems that more holistically address human needs”</strong></p>



<p>Co-creation is not about ambassadors and brand promotion, but about people who identify with the brand and are able to adapt the brand message in an authentic and native way.</p>

<p>In addition to the typical &#8220;post&#8221;, the co-creators are part of the brand&#8217;s daily creation, they are our consultants, they are producers, they are photographers, they are models, they are artists, they are activists, it is who allows us to arrive with the right and native message to the different audiences.<br> </p>



<p>A project that currently has more than 65 co-creators, some of which have been with the brand for over 5 years.<br> </p>



<p>How is it possible to manage so many people? So many personalities?<br> </p>



<p>Easy <img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/13.1.0/72x72/1f60a.png" alt="😊" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> , a family concept was created, where the new ones are welcomed by the older ones in the family, we foster synergies and content between them. We support your projects and give voice to your art on our networks.<br></p>



<p>For example, our community manager is a co-creator, our designer was a recommendation from a co-creator, the person in charge of <a href="https://issuu.com/sumolsmag" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sumol Magazine</a> is a co-creator, the producer that produces almost all of the brand&#8217;s digital content was born within Sumol.</p>



<p>And what are the briefings like?<br></p>



<p>We encourage authentic and native content, we don&#8217;t have brand guidelines but message guidelines.  We want them to interpret the brand in their language and not in the brand&#8217;s language.<br> </p>



<p>For example, the most viewed TikTok with over 5M views was created by a co-creator.</p>

<p>And what was the audience&#8217;s reaction?</p>

<p>This proves that people want <strong>authentic content, native to different networks.</strong></p>



<p>The humanization of marketing is giving a voice to our communities, and true influencer marketing is making a brand&#8217;s message credible.</p>



<p>That&#8217;s why I end the article with Johann Goethe&#8217;s famous phrase:<br> </p>

<h2>Influencer Marketing Data done Right</h2>



<p>I asked a friend why did he like a picture of an influencer holding a product.</p>



<p>He is a man and told me &#8211; &#8220;I don&#8217;t care about the product. I just put likes because she is pretty&#8221;. </p>



<p>Less mature Brands in Influencer Marketing often look at likes and followers.</p>



<p>Like and Followers does not translate Influence. </p>



<p>Do you remember that Influencer with millions of followers and that did not even sell 36 t-shirts? </p>



<p>But real Influencers can stock out their Own or other Brands products.  They create content on one or two subjects, and the audience recognizes them as experts on a field or subject. </p>



<p>Influencer Marketing is a hard game. There is a lot of false metrics, absurd premises, and distorted mechanisms. </p>



<p>Even Big Brands fall on schemes, for example, &#8220;comment for comment&#8221; where profiles exchange comments and impress the less attentive with massive fixed engagement. </p>



<p>But they have got zero influence. </p>



<h4>Are you using estimated data to decide your Influencer Marketing strategies? Are you aware of the negative effects this may have on your performance?</h4>



<p>If you are making decisions based on wrong information, don’t expect a brilliant outcome. Content Creators and social networks selection, the number of posts, all of these will be decided based on fake data.</p>



<p>But why would you choose estimated insights over real data? This is the heart of the matter: most of the time you don’t know that the information you are using is not legitimate. </p>



<p>How is that possible? Third-party companies are the answer.</p>



<h4><strong>Third-party companies</strong> and Estimated Data</h4>



<p>These companies sell data regarding Creators’ Audiences, such as their location (city and country).  Gender and age range, the reach of each specific post and many other metrics. </p>



<p>However, this information only Creators have access to. So how would third party companies have access to those insights? Well! They don’t, that’s why they sell estimated data. And it’s easy to see why. </p>



<p>Think about it. This information is constantly evolving. They would need to be in contact with the Creators, always requesting their insights to update their database. </p>



<p>And there are multiple providers like this. So all of them would be frequently contacting Creators and requesting their private data. It’s inconceivable.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Third-party companies omit the fact that the information they provide is not legitimate. They calculate Creators’ insights based on their public information. </p>



<p>Each one has its specific way of producing data, but at the end of the day, they are mostly a guess. </p>



<h4><strong>Real Data vs Estimated Data</strong></h4>



<p>Let’s look at an example! Here we have screenshots of the audience insights from an Instagram account with +8M followers:</p>

<p>According to the third party supplier, 29% of their followers are from Spain. So, 29% of 8M followers would be 2,320M people.</p>



<p>However, from the private data in his account, we can see that only 5% of his audience is from Spain. 8194006 x 5% equals 409700 people.</p>



<p>There’s a staggering difference between the real data of 410k and the fabricated data of 2,3M!</p>



<p>This proves that estimated data may be burning your Influencer Marketing Results! </p>



<h3><strong>How to overcome this and Work with Real Data?</strong></h3>



<p>Data authenticity is mandatory to work professionally!</p>



<p>Creators are the owners of their audience insights. They are the ones who should be in control of who has access to that information.</p>



<p>What they need is a safe way to easily manage who has access to their data. </p>



<p>A tool to enable Brands to obtain that information, and the ability to revoke access to it once it is no longer necessary.</p>

<p>Instagram giveaways are often used to grow pages. But are giveaways damaging your page growth?</p>



<h2>Followers or Sales?</h2>



<p>Often you hear vanity metrics like &#8220;The giveaway gave us 6500 new followers&#8221;. </p>



<p>The most important questions are:</p>



<ol><li>Did the giveaway increase your sales?</li><li>How many followers stopped following the page in 1, 3, 6 months?</li><li>Did you increase your page Engagement Rate in the following month?</li></ol>



<h2>Types of Instagram giveaways</h2>



<p>Not all giveaways damage Brands profiles.</p>



<p><strong>The bad one</strong>: Very generic</p>



<p><strong>The good one</strong>: Niche-Centric </p>



<p>The “generic giveaway&#8221; it&#8217;s bad for your brand! </p>



<p>For example, a Brand with an eCommerce website that sells 400€ shoes. </p>



<p>Imagine before the giveaway the account had 16K followers and getting 400 likes and 20 comments. </p>



<p>Buf after the giveaway, the brand got 40,000 followers!</p>

<p>And the new followers did not boost sales growth in the short, mid and long term. </p>



<h3>What these results tell us?</h3>



<p>Generic giveaways attract &#8220;prize hunters&#8221; that don&#8217;t care about the business.</p>



<p>The giveaway increased may increase followers, but the engagement dropped. This tells Instagram&#8217;s algorithm that the content is not &#8220;useful&#8221;. </p>



<p>In that case, the posts are seen by fewer people less often and it&#8217;s harder to generate engagement and sales. </p>

<h2>The Importance of Traffic Data in Stories</h2>



<p>The philosopher Kant once said, &#8221; I think,&nbsp;<strong>therefore</strong>&nbsp;I exist &#8221; and at Primetag we raised the question after an influencer marketing philosophical dialogue.</p>



<p>What is the percentage of non-unique Swipe Ups? </p>



<p>Real Data generates true insights for better decisions. <strong> The total of Swipe Ups may not represent the number of unique persons</strong> and with that in mind, we studied the question to find a pattern. </p>



<h2>Unique Swipe Ups vs Non-Unique Swipe Ups</h2>



<p>If Cher wrote a song about this, it would be something like &#8220;Do you Believe in Click After Click&#8221;?</p>



<p>For the sceptics, it´s time to believe because non-unique Swipe Ups is something too important to not measure right. </p>



<p>Primetag studied 10 months of Brands Stories in Influencer Marketing Campaigns made through our platform. <strong>From January 2020 until October 2020, 695 stories and 203939 Swipe Ups were analyzed. </strong>And in more than half of the stories analyzed, the number of non-unique Swipe Ups is more than 10%. </p>

<h2>The behaviour of Multiple Swipe Ups on Stories</h2>



<p>3 profiles with more than 2000 clicks (Single Storie for Brands) were analyzed and <strong>there isn&#8217;t a common behaviour </strong>on the second or third click. </p>



<p>Followers can click again at any time of the day, after 30 minutes or after 4 or 10 or more hours. </p>



<p>But in theory, multiple clicks shows consideration/evaluation for a product.</p>



<p><strong>Because the first click may not be at the best time to purchase, or the consumer needs more time to the purchase decision.</strong> </p>



<h2>Why non-unique Swipe Ups Data is important for Brands in Influence Marketing</h2>



<p>The good: The higher the percentage of non-unique Swipe Ups, the more relevant the product is for the audience.  </p>



<p>The bad: If the number is very high, you may be using the wrong assumptions about the success of your campaign. </p>



<h2>The importance of tracking Swipe Ups in Influence Marketing</h2>



<p>Some influencers gain more traffic with stories. Unless you see the post within the 24-hour window, you may never know that occurred or how many impressions it made. And tracking the stories by doing screenshots for reports is a time-waster. </p>

<p>Railway fatalities tripled since 2016 in The Netherlands, and statistically, teenagers were most of the victims. </p>



<p>Dutch governmental railway company ProRail had to reach a younger audience and promote safety. ProRail launched &#8220;Victim Fashion, created by accident’: a youth safety campaign disguised as a fashion label. </p>



<p>Influencers hyped the ‘brand’ beforehand. Followers (including micro-influencers) were invited to the launch at an Amsterdam Fashion show. </p>



<p>In front of the cameras, the shocking truth was uncovered for the press, key influencers and teen followers.</p>

The challenge had also unsolicited celebrity videos, including Ellen, Lizzo, Reese Witherspoon, Howie Mandel, Kevin Hart, Jessica Alba, James Charles, the Pussycat Dolls. </p>

<p>To bring humanitarian aid to the people there, Snapchat influencer&nbsp;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://twitter.com/jeromejarre?lang=en" target="_blank">Jérôme Jarre</a>&nbsp;partnered with Turkish Airlines, the only international airline flying to Somalia. </p>
