Long gone are the days in which the line-up was the only criteria followed to splurge on a music festival.
Early bird gets the worm. As children of the financial crisis and the social networks, Portuguese Millennials don’t let finances get the best of their life experiences. In fact, 2.7 million attendants were brought together at the 311 festivals held in Portugal last year (source).
Long gone are the days in which the line-up was the only criteria followed in deciding to splurge on a music festival. The opportunity to watch the Arctic Monkeys, Lorde or Muse live becomes a must-go social event; a congregation of big crowds, food trucks, and famous figures ambling in their fashion-week worthy outfits.
Brands and promoters are leading this reinvention of festival culture, by crafting unique experiences for an ever so demanding audience. Their goal: getting noticed among a growing battlefield of brands. Some build interactive stands that blend brilliantly into the festive venue, while others, with tighter budgets, find ingenious ways to sneak in their logo and become part of the party.
Overall, brands want their message to be amplified through unique voices in social media. Influencers are given VIP access and are paid to generate images and videos at the venue. From the promoters side, influencers can generate hype before, during, and after the festival weekend. By inviting influencers to their festival, companies are not only making the event to be even more remarkable to attendees but also more enviable to those who scroll the screen.
